Thermostatic expansion valves (often called TXVs and sometimes TEVs) adjust the flow of liquid refrigerant to the evaporator by controlling the superheat. The superheat can be manually adjusted to optimize the efficiency of a cooling system.
EVRAs are solenoid valves used exclusively in industrial refrigeration settings. They close off the flow of refrigerant, both liquid and hot gas. They are frequently used to cut off the liquid supply to the evaporator and open for hot gas defrosting.
An AKV is an electric expansion valve (EEV)—often referred to as an electronic expansion valve (also EEV). It uses pulses governed by an electronic controller to regulate the flow of refrigerant to the evaporator.
An AKV valve is, in effect, a solenoid valve and works as such, so no extra solenoid valve installation is needed.
The Danfoss EVU series of solenoid valves are most often used in compact installations such as glass door merchandisers, bottle coolers, and ice makers. Danfoss EVUs are available with a range of electrical connections.
The Danfoss CTR is an electrically operated 3-way valve designed for CO2 systems with heat reclaim. The CTR is designed to allow full proportional control of the surplus heat from compressor pack into the heat exchanger of transcritical heat reclaim solutions.
The Danfoss ETS electronic bi-flow expansion valve is controlled by a stepper motor that controls the opening degree of the valve orifice. An electronic control regulates the stepper motor opening using sensor signals and a coded algorithm.
EVRs are solenoid valves used with non-aggressive media. They close off the flow of refrigerant, both liquid and hot gas. They are frequently used to cut off the liquid supply to the evaporator and open for hot gas defrosting. EVRs are similar to EVRAs but are made from a different material, so they won’t work with ammonia (R717).
The ICM motor-operated valve belongs to the Danfoss ICV Flexline valve series. The ICM is designed for operation with ammonia and carbon dioxide and is driven by actuator-type ICAD. The ICM valve is designed to regulate an expansion process in liquid lines—with or without phase change—or control pressure or temperature in dry and wet suction lines and hot gas lines.
The ICLX 2-step solenoid valve belongs to the Danfoss ICV Flexline valve series and is designed for operation with ammonia and carbon dioxide. The ICLX is used in suction lines for opening against high differential pressure, e.g. after hot gas defrost in large industrial refrigeration systems.
The Danfoss KP pressure switch controls and protects the system from low suction pressure or high discharge pressure. The pressure switch has two main functions: Protective/safety functions by pressure limiting and cuts out against excessive low or high pressure and control functions such as compressor cycling, fan-cycling, or pump-down.
The Danfoss KVR pressure-regulating valve is used for maintaining minimum condensing pressure, especially in low ambient temperature conditions such as in winter or during cold nights when condensing pressure may fall. The valve will start closing when the pressure falls below the set value, maintaining the condensing pressure by throttling the condenser outlet.
The Danfoss KVP pressure-regulating valve is used to control evaporator pressure where the valve is installed in the suction line. This is especially useful with multiple evaporators on the same compressor, where the evaporation pressure can differ from evaporator to evaporator. The KVP throttles the suction pressure of each evaporator as a function of the evaporator pressure.
The Danfoss KVC pressure-regulating valve is used for controlling compressor capacity by injecting hot gas from the discharge line to the suction line in low-load situations, keeping the compressor in operation without cycling because of low-pressure cut-out. The KVC throttles the hot gas to the suction line as a function of the suction pressure.
The Danfoss KVL pressure-regulating valve is used for controlling crankcase pressure. The valve is installed in the suction line and opens with lower suction pressure to protect the compressor during startup and after a long standstill. The KVL throttles the suction pressure as a function of the suction pressure.
The Danfoss WVFX and WVTS water pressure regulating valves are used for regulating the flow of cooling water to water-cooled condensers. The WVFX regulates the water inlet pressure as a function of the refrigerant hot gas pressure and the WVTS regulates it based on hot gas temperature. This means that the higher the condensing pressure or temperature, the more cooling water runs to the condenser, and thereby a balance between water flow and refrigerant condensing temperature is obtained.
The Danfoss ICSH dual-position solenoid valve is used in hot gas lines for the opening of hot gas defrost flow to the evaporator in 2 steps. The valve belongs to the ICV series and consists of an ICV housing, an ICS insert together with an ICSH top cover, and 2 EVM normally closed solenoid pilots installed on the top cover.
